Pune Airport Cash Smuggling Bust: Three Students Caught with ₹3.3 Crore Hidden in Books

Published:

In a shocking case at Pune Airport, three female students were caught trying to smuggle a massive $400,000 (₹3.3 crore) concealed between the pages of notebooks. The students, who were on their way to Dubai, raised suspicion during security checks, leading officials to discover the hidden cash.

Suspected Hawala Connection

Authorities suspect this case is linked to an illegal hawala network, where money is moved secretly to avoid taxes and banking regulations. A Pune-based travel agent is believed to have played a role in the operation and has been arrested for further investigation.

A Series of Cash Seizures in Pune

This is not the first major cash recovery in the city. In October 2024, Pune Rural police seized ₹5 crore from a vehicle during election code enforcement. Around the same time, officials confiscated ₹13 lakh in cash from a car in Hadapsar.

Strict Action Against Illegal Money Transfers

With repeated incidents of cash smuggling, authorities are on high alert to curb the illegal movement of money. This latest bust highlights the innovative smuggling techniques being used and the ongoing challenge for law enforcement in tackling financial crimes.

Investigation Continues

Officials are now questioning the students and tracking the source and intended destination of the money. More arrests are likely as authorities dig deeper into the network behind this high-stakes smuggling attempt.
