New Pedestrian Link to Improve Access to Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station; Alternative Routes Advised

Pune |
As part of Pune Metro’s efforts to improve last-mile connectivity, a new footbridge is being constructed over the Bhide Bridge to connect the Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station with central city areas like Narayan Peth, Shanivar Peth, and Laxmi Road.

To facilitate this construction, the Bhide Bridge will remain closed to vehicular traffic for one and a half months, starting midnight on April 20 (Sunday night) until June 6, 2025.

🛠️ What’s Happening?

  • The footbridge will enhance pedestrian access to Deccan Gymkhana Station (Vanaz–Ramwadi route)

  • It is a crucial link for daily commuters, students, and residents

  • Bhide Bridge, located over the Mula River, is the construction zone

  • The road along the riverbank will remain open for local vehicular movement

🚗 Alternative Routes Suggested

Pune Metro and traffic authorities are requesting commuters to use the following alternative bridges during the closure period:

  • Lakdi Pul

  • Balgandharv Bridge

  • Z Bridge

“We understand the inconvenience and request citizens to cooperate. The footbridge work is progressing swiftly and will ease travel once completed,” said a Pune Metro spokesperson.

🚉 First Phase of Pune Metro Complete

This development follows the completion of Phase 1 of the Pune Metro, with all stations now operational. The ongoing infrastructure push aims to improve last-mile connectivity for metro users through pedestrian-friendly planning.

The footbridge near Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan Station is nearly complete and will also be opened soon, further enhancing urban mobility in the area.

Temporary traffic disruptions often lead to long-term convenience. With Pune Metro prioritizing pedestrian infrastructure, the city is making strides toward a more accessible and commuter-friendly urban design.
