The Maharashtra government has approved the construction of a double-decker elevated flyover between Phoenix Market City in Viman Nagar and Kharadi along the Pune–Ahilyanagar Highway, aiming to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the area.
The approval reinstates a crucial five-kilometer stretch from Phoenix Market City to Kharadi Jakat Naka that was previously excluded from the project. With this decision, a seamless elevated corridor will now be developed to ensure smoother traffic flow.
Vadgaonsheri MLA Bapusaheb Pathare highlighted his efforts in pushing for the reinstatement, citing rapid urban growth and worsening congestion as major concerns. Former MLA Sunil Tingre also welcomed the government’s move, stating that the elevated flyover would provide much-needed relief for commuters on the busy Ahilyanagar Road.
The project will be managed by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) and involves constructing a nearly four-kilometer stretch of elevated road within Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits. It is part of the broader Pune–Shirur elevated highway development plan.
Officials expect the new flyover to help reduce travel time, ease bottlenecks at key junctions, and better support the growing urban population in East Pune.
