A horrific road accident rocked Pune’s Sinhgad Road area in the early hours of Saturday, leaving one person dead and three others injured after a speeding Mercedes-Benz crashed into a two-wheeler and plunged off the Wadgaon Bridge.
The accident occurred around 4:30 AM. According to police officials, the luxury car hit a motorcycle from behind while traveling at high speed. The impact was so forceful that the Mercedes lost control, broke through the bridge barrier, and fell onto the service road below.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3), Sambhaji Kadam, confirmed:
“The motorcyclist, who was critically injured, died in hospital. The pillion rider and the car occupants were also hurt.”

Following the incident, the driver of the Mercedes has been arrested and charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, along with applicable provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police have launched a full investigation to determine the precise cause of the crash and whether alcohol or negligence played a role.
This tragic event underscores the deadly consequences of reckless driving and has once again raised concerns about road safety and speeding in urban areas like Pune.
