Pune has been ranked the fourth most congested city in the world, according to the TomTom Traffic Index 2024, joining fellow Indian metros Kolkata and Bengaluru in a global top 10 list dominated by cities battling severe traffic bottlenecks.

The report analyzed traffic data from over 500 cities across 62 countries, based on real-time information collected from more than 600 million connected devices. The findings shed light on the growing challenge of urban mobility in rapidly expanding Indian cities.

Three Indian Cities in Global Top 5

  1. Kolkata – 2nd globally

    • Avg. time per 10 km: 34 min 33 sec

    • Congestion: 32%

    • Time lost/year: 110 hours

  2. Bengaluru – 3rd globally

    • Avg. time per 10 km: 34 min 10 sec

    • Congestion: 38%

    • Time lost/year: 117 hours

  3. Pune – 4th globally

    • Avg. time per 10 km: 33 min 22 sec

    • Congestion: 34%

    • Time lost/year: 108 hours

These cities surpass several developed urban centers in terms of time lost and daily delays, signaling the need for immediate action.
