Pune Shock: Woman Raped Inside Parked Shivshahi Bus at Swargate Depot

Published:

In a deeply distressing incident, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped inside a stationary Shivshahi bus at Pune’s Swargate bus depot. The assault has ignited public outrage and raised serious concerns about the security measures at one of the city’s busiest transport hubs.

Incident Details

The incident took place around 6 AM on Tuesday at the usually bustling Swargate State Transport (ST) bus stand. After reviewing CCTV footage, the police identified the accused as 36-year-old Dattatray Ramdas Gade from Shirur, who has a criminal record. Eight police teams have been deployed to track him down, and efforts are underway to arrest the suspect, who remains at large.

Security Warnings Ignored

In the aftermath, NCP-SP Lok Sabha member Supriya Sule highlighted a prior letter from the Swargate depot chief to local police, expressing concerns about the depot’s security and the presence of anti-social elements. This correspondence suggests that warnings were issued before the tragic event, but adequate measures may not have been implemented.

Official Response

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) and local police have initiated separate investigations into the incident. Authorities are reviewing security protocols and examining CCTV footage to identify lapses and prevent future occurrences.

Public Outcry

The incident has led to widespread condemnation from citizens and activists, who are demanding swift justice for the survivor and immediate enhancements to security at public transport facilities.

As the investigation continues, further details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding this grievous crime.
