Punjab Child Rights Commission Cracks Down on Online Obscenity and Gun Culture

The Punjab State Child Rights Commission (PSCRC) has taken a strong stance against the rising tide of vulgarity and glorification of drug and gun culture on social media. In a directive issued on Friday, the Commission ordered the Additional Director General of Police (Cyber Crime) to initiate legal action against individuals promoting such harmful content online.

PSCRC Chairman Kanwardeep Singh expressed concern over the increasing exposure of children to inappropriate and obscene material on social media platforms.

“In today’s digital age, children are heavily influenced by social media. Immediate legal action is required against those uploading vulgar or indecent content and promoting drugs and gun culture just to earn money,” said Singh.

The Commission emphasized the need to create a safer online environment for minors and directed the ADGP (Cyber Crime) to report back within 15 days with details of the action taken.

This directive comes at a time when the spread of ambiguous and harmful content online has become a serious concern for parents, educators, and child welfare agencies across the state. The PSCRC’s move aims to curb the influence of such content on impressionable minds and ensure responsible digital practices.

What Can Parents Do?

The Commission also emphasized the important role of parents in safeguarding their children. Parents are advised to:

  • Monitor the content their children are consuming online.

  • Talk openly with children about the dangers of inappropriate content.

  • Use parental controls on devices and apps.

  • Encourage children to report suspicious or harmful content.

  • Promote healthy screen habits and guide children toward age-appropriate media.

By staying involved in their child’s digital life, parents can serve as the first line of defense in preventing the harmful influence of social media.

This move by the PSCRC marks a crucial step in addressing the digital threats facing young minds and ensuring a safer online space for the state’s children.

For now, all eyes are on the Punjab Cyber Crime Cell to see what measures will be implemented to tackle this growing menace.
