Shani Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Shani, will be observed on May 27, 2025. Known as the ruler of the planet Saturn and the son of Lord Surya (Sun), Lord Shani is revered for justice, discipline, and karma.
This day, also called Shani Amavasya, falls on the Amavasya Tithi (new moon day) during the Jyeshtha month (as per the North Indian Purnimanta calendar) and Vaishakha month (as per the South Indian Amanta calendar). Interestingly, this year Shani Jayanti coincides with Vat Savitri Vrat, making it spiritually powerful for both ancestral worship and removing planetary doshas.

🌌 Significance of Shani Jayanti
Shani Jayanti is considered a highly auspicious day to seek the blessings of Lord Shani. According to beliefs, those who please Lord Shani with devotion are rewarded with good fortune, justice, and relief from chronic problems.
This day is also significant for Pitru Puja, where families remember their ancestors and perform rituals to remove Pitru Dosha. Since the Amavasya and Shani Jayanti fall together, it is an ideal time to perform Shani Shanti Puja and Tailabhishekam (oil offering) to reduce the effects of Shani Dosha in one’s horoscope.
Rituals to Overcome Shani Dosha

To reduce the malefic effects of Saturn (Shani Dosha), devotees are advised to:
-
Wake up early, bathe, and wear clean clothes.
-
Offer prayers to Lord Shani and chant the mantra:
“Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah” -
Light a mustard oil lamp under a Peepal tree in the evening.
-
Add black sesame seeds and a ₹1 coin to the oil.
-
Circumambulate the Peepal tree seven times.
-
Optional: Perform a Shani Shanti Hawan or consult a priest for a special Tailabhishekam.
Shani Jayanti is more than a day of fear—it’s a day of transformation. Worship with sincerity and follow the rituals with faith, and Lord Shani is believed to bless devotees with strength, patience, and relief from hardships.
