Team India Breaks 64-Year Record With Dominant Batting Show Against West Indies

Published:

After 64 years and 10 months, Team India has rewritten cricket history, smashing a remarkable batting record in Test cricket against the West Indies. For the first time since 1960, India recorded 50-plus partnerships for each of the first five wickets in a single Test innings a rare feat that cements their dominance in the ongoing series.

The record-breaking performance came during the second Test at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, with captain Shubman Gill and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal leading the charge.

Historic Partnerships & Stellar Performances

India’s top order fired in unison, displaying remarkable consistency and control.

  • Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered a magnificent 175 before being run out by Chanderpaul and Imlach.

  • Shubman Gill, calm and composed, stayed unbeaten on 129, marking his 10th Test century.

  • Sai Sudharsan narrowly missed a ton, contributing a fluent 87, while KL Rahul chipped in with a brisk 38.

Their combined efforts ensured India’s stronghold over the West Indies, extending the team’s momentum after their emphatic win in Ahmedabad’s first Test where they had triumphed by an innings and 140 runs.

A Record 64 Years in the Making

The last time a visiting team achieved this against the West Indies was in 1960, when Australia managed the same in the historic tied Test at the Gabba.
For India, this is only the third instance of such dominance previously recorded against England (1993, Mumbai) and Australia (2023, Ahmedabad).

India’s Consistent Dominance

Indian batters have shown unrivaled form in recent years. Out of the 25 Test centuries scored in the last 14 India-West Indies Tests since 2013, 23 have come from Indian batsmen.
Meanwhile, Roston Chase remains the only West Indies player to cross the three-figure mark twice during this period.

With this latest milestone, Team India’s batting unit continues to demonstrate not just depth but also historic consistency blending youth, technique, and flair in a way that’s redefining modern Test cricket.
