Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Sunday said that Telangana is rapidly developing into a handloom hub, with the proposed Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in Warangal expected to attract investments worth ₹10,000 crore and generate employment for nearly two lakh people.
Speaking at the inauguration of the week-long National Handloom Day celebrations at Shilparamam in Hyderabad, Reddy highlighted the Centre’s initiatives to boost the handloom sector in the state.

He said the Modi government has distributed 100 electronic jacquard weaving machines and facilitated the establishment of 31 handloom producer companies. The Centre is also working on reviving traditional fabrics such as Himroo, Pithambari sarees, and Armoor silk sarees, while supporting handloom clusters in Siddipet, Kamalapur, Dubbak, and Warangal.
“Training has been provided to about 900 weavers in modern weaving techniques, and Mudra loans worth ₹70 crore have been sanctioned to empower artisans,” Reddy added.
Telangana currently has an estimated 48,000 artisans engaged in 17 types of handlooms, including globally renowned weaves like Pochampalli Ikkat and Narayanapet cotton sarees.
