Loco Pilot’s Quick Response Averts Major Rail Mishap on Saharsa–Anand Vihar Route
Lucknow |
A potential train sabotage attempt was narrowly averted late Tuesday night near Malihabad, on the outskirts of Lucknow, after the loco pilot of the 05577 Saharsa–Anand Vihar Garib Rath Express applied emergency brakes in time upon spotting wooden planks and tree branches deliberately placed on the tracks.
The incident occurred between Rahimabad and Dilawar Nagar stations. As the train approached the stretch, the loco pilot noticed a large 2.5-ft wooden plank—approximately six inches thick—along with mango tree branches and an orange towel, directly obstructing the railway track.
“The pilot’s alertness saved hundreds of lives. He brought the train to a complete halt and informed authorities,” said RPF official Rajesh Ranjan.
What Happened:
- Objects Found: Wooden plank, branches, leaves, and an orange towel on the track
- Location: Near Malihabad, on the north side of the railway line
- Immediate Action: Train staff inspected the track and alerted the Rahimabad station master and Railway Protection Force (RPF)
- Follow-up: RPF and local police arrived, cleared debris, and declared the track safe for travel
Further investigation revealed additional wooden logs placed nearby, suggesting a deliberate attempt to cause derailment.
👮 Investigation Underway
A formal case has been registered at the Rahimabad police station under relevant sections for attempted sabotage and endangering public safety. A joint probe by the RPF and Uttar Pradesh Police is ongoing to identify the culprits behind the act.
This incident once again highlights the vital role of vigilance in railway operations and the ongoing need for enhanced track surveillance and community alerts, especially in vulnerable rural stretches. Thankfully, a quick-thinking loco pilot averted what could have been a tragic accident.
