Two ‘Hybrid’ Lashkar Militants Caught in Shopian During Night Operation

Published:

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir arrested two suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) hybrid militants in Shopian district during a late-night search operation on Wednesday. The arrests were made in the Baskuchan area of Poonch, following a cordon and search operation (CASO).

According to police, the two individuals have been identified as Irfan Bashir and Uzair Salam. Both were found in possession of:

  • Two AK-56 rifles

  • Four magazines

  • 102 rounds of ammunition (7.62x39mm)

  • Two hand grenades

  • Two pouches

What Are Hybrid Militants?

Hybrid militants are individuals who are not officially listed as terrorists but are radicalised enough to carry out attacks and then return to their everyday lives, making them harder to track.

Security forces said they cordoned off the area after receiving specific inputs. Suspicious movement was noticed in a nearby orchard, and forces acted swiftly to prevent any gunfight.

“Thanks to strategic coordination, the two militants surrendered without a shootout—avoiding potential bloodshed,” a senior official told PTI.

Legal Action Underway

An FIR has been registered, and a detailed investigation is now in progress to understand the extent of their network and potential involvement in other planned attacks.
