The 15-day nationwide ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ aimed at strengthening farmers’ knowledge and advancing agricultural practices concluded on June 12 with a formal event in Bardoli, Gujarat. The campaign, launched under the vision of ‘Lab to Land’, connected scientists and farmers across the country through direct outreach programs.
Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, addressing the final gathering, highlighted the campaign’s impact while reaffirming that dialogue with farmers will continue beyond the campaign.

Gujarat’s Agricultural Progress
Speaking in Bardoli, Shri Chouhan praised Gujarat’s agricultural achievements:
-
Gujarat ranks first in India in producing castor, cumin, fennel, and dates.
-
77% of India’s castor, 44.5% groundnut, 24% cotton, and 15% gram are produced in Gujarat.
-
Rapid progress in food processing, value addition, and horticulture.
-
Farmers are embracing natural farming to reduce costs while maintaining product quality.
-
Target of natural farming on 7.5 lakh hectares set for this year; 18 lakh farmers already onboard.
“Natural farming in Gujarat is achieving great results. Technology is also being used widely, benefitting farmers immensely,” Shri Chouhan said.
The Minister reflected on Bardoli’s historic significance, marking the anniversary of the Bardoli Satyagraha led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in 1928 — a key moment in India’s agrarian history.
The Way Forward
Though the campaign formally ends, Shri Chouhan stressed the commitment to continued engagement with farmers:
-
Promoting advanced seed varieties and farm mechanization.
-
Encouraging efficient water use (more crop per drop).
-
Supporting balanced use of fertilizers and sustainable farming practices.
-
Shaping future agricultural policies based on farmer feedback and innovations.
“With ‘One Nation – One Agriculture – One Team’ spirit, we will continue to interact with farmers to make agriculture more prosperous and sustainable,” Shri Chouhan said.
Nationwide Outreach
During the 15-day campaign that began in Odisha on May 29, Shri Chouhan visited states including Odisha, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Delhi, and Gujarat.
“We received feedback of more than 10,000 farmers … common issues include shortages and adulteration in fertilisers, insecticides, oil cakes and seeds,” said Dheer Singh, Director of National Dairy Research Institute and Nodal Officer for the Haryana chapter of the campaign (source- HT)
The campaign showcased India’s evolving agricultural landscape — one where science meets tradition, and where farmers are central to shaping future innovations.
