A video claiming that nails were planted on the Samruddhi Mahamarg to puncture vehicles went viral on social media today. Police have confirmed that the claim is false.

At 7:51 AM, a user named Abdullah Almohammadi posted on X (formerly Twitter) that miscreants had hammered large nails on the road between Savangi Interchange and Jambhala Interchange, causing multiple cars to suffer punctured tyres. He also tagged Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in his post, sharing a video and Google Maps location.

However, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police dismissed the claim. DCP Prashant Swami explained that bolts seen on the road were part of ongoing road-strengthening work. These bolts were used to release chemicals into the road divider. Barricades had been placed around the worksite, but passing vehicles damaged them, making the bolts visible on the road. By morning, the bolts had already been removed, and there was no evidence of foul play.

MSRDC (Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation) also clarified that, “The bolts were used for road reinforcement work. The contractor responsible will be fined for failing to maintain proper barricading at the site.”

To further clarify the matter, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) issued an official statement. The letter, reproduced below, explains that the bolts were part of road-strengthening work and not maliciously planted nails.
