Wanowrie Residents Frustrated as Incomplete Drainage Work Brings Traffic Chaos

Published:

Daily life in Pune’s Wanowrie area has taken a hit due to stalled drainage work near Samvidhan Chowk and Jagtap Chowk, close to Sacred World Mall. The project, meant to improve local infrastructure, has instead turned into a source of serious public inconvenience.

For over 10 days, large portions of the road have remained dug up and partially barricaded—with no signs of ongoing work or active supervision. As a result, commuters are facing major traffic disruptions, and residents are raising concerns over safety and mismanagement.

Locals Voice Concerns

A 15 to 20-foot stretch outside Sacred World Mall remains unfinished, with loose soil, broken roads, and inadequate signage making it particularly risky for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders.

“There’s no progress and no one at the site. Traffic is stuck every day, and it’s becoming dangerous,” said a resident from a nearby housing society.

Safety Risks Ahead of Monsoon

With monsoon season approaching, residents fear that open trenches and blocked roads could cause accidents or waterlogging if not resolved quickly. The lack of barricades and poor visibility at night adds to the danger.

Citizens Demand Accountability

Locals are urging the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the contractor to take urgent action. Many are also calling for regular monitoring of civic projects to prevent such prolonged delays in essential urban works.

As civic patience wears thin, residents hope that the authorities will respond with swift repairs and better planning to ensure safer, smoother travel in the area.
