A new political storm is brewing after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora as its candidate for the Ludhiana West assembly by poll. The move has triggered speculation that Arvind Kejriwal may be eyeing a Rajya Sabha seat after his defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections.
What’s Happening?
Sanjeev Arora, a businessman from Ludhiana, has been an AAP Rajya Sabha MP since 2022. His nomination for the Ludhiana West bypoll came after the unfortunate demise of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi last month. The bypoll date is yet to be announced.
But the bigger question now is: Is this just a routine nomination, or is it part of a larger plan to clear the Rajya Sabha seat for Kejriwal?
BJP Reacts: ‘Is This a Backdoor Entry for Kejriwal?’
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has wasted no time in questioning AAP’s decision. BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya took to social media and asked:
“Is this a move to make way for Arvind Kejriwal, who just lost his own seat in New Delhi, to get into Rajya Sabha from Punjab?”
BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill also hit out at AAP, listing three possible reasons behind this decision:
- Does Kejriwal want to enter Rajya Sabha?
- Is Kejriwal looking for government accommodation in Delhi?
- Is Kejriwal feeling left out after losing power?
Shergill even suggested that Sanjeev Arora was asked to step aside to satisfy what he called Kejriwal’s hunger for power, perks, and privileges.
AAP’s Response: ‘No, Kejriwal is Not Going to Rajya Sabha’
AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar dismissed the rumors outright, saying:
“Arvind Kejriwal is not going to Rajya Sabha.”
She added that there was speculation earlier that Kejriwal would become Punjab CM, and now there is talk about him joining Parliament.
“Both are false. Arvind Kejriwal is AAP’s national convenor. His demand is high, but he is not restricted to one seat,” she said.
Congress Leader’s Claim: ‘This Will 100% Happen’
Interestingly, Punjab Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa seems to believe that Kejriwal’s Rajya Sabha entry is inevitable. He claimed that Kejriwal initially considered contesting from the Ludhiana West assembly seat but backed off due to possible backlash in Punjab.
“This (Kejriwal entering Parliament) will 100 percent happen,” Bajwa told the media.
He also hinted that AAP’s move to field Sanjeev Arora for the bypoll might be linked to Kejriwal’s entry into Rajya Sabha.
What’s the Real Plan?
While AAP denies any plans for Kejriwal’s Rajya Sabha entry, BJP and Congress believe otherwise. The truth will only come out once the bypoll results are declared and decisions on Rajya Sabha nominations are made.
For now, the speculation continues: Is Arvind Kejriwal preparing for a political comeback through Parliament, or is this just another rumor in India’s ever-dramatic politics?
