Ganga River Water in Bihar Found Unsafe for Bathing

Published:

Recent reports have raised concerns about the Ganga River’s water quality in Bihar. According to the Bihar Economic Survey 2024-25, the river’s water in many areas is not fit for bathing due to high levels of bacteria.

Tests show that total coliform and faecal coliform bacteria levels exceed the safe limits set by environmental authorities. This means the water could pose health risks for people who come into contact with it.

Regular Monitoring but No Immediate Panic

The Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) checks the Ganga’s water quality every two weeks at 34 different locations in the state. Although bacteria levels are high, BSPCB officials have stated that there is no immediate danger to human health or marine life.

Need for Better Pollution Control

Despite efforts to reduce pollution, keeping the Ganga clean remains a challenge. Experts emphasize the need for stronger pollution control measures and continuous monitoring to protect the river and the people who depend on it.
