Mahabaleshwar l
A weekend getaway turned into a nightmare when a speeding SUV veered off the treacherous Pasarni Ghat road in Mahabaleshwar, plunging 100 meters into a deep valley. Two young men lost their lives on the spot, while two others are battling for survival in a hospital.
A Deadly Plunge
Pasarni Ghat, known for its sharp turns and dangerous slopes, has seen many accidents over the years, but this one once again raises questions about road safety, reckless driving, and infrastructure preparedness. The ill-fated Ford Endeavour was descending the ghat at high speed when the driver lost control, sending the vehicle crashing down the valley.
The Lives Lost and Those Fighting for Survival
According to police reports, the victims have been identified as:
- Akshay Mhasku Kalbhor (26) – a young man with his entire life ahead of him, now gone too soon.
- Saurabh Jalindar Kalbhor (26) – another promising life cut short in an instant.
The injured survivors, currently in critical condition at Wai hospital, are:
- Vaibhav Kalbhor (24) – struggling for life, doctors are keeping a close watch.
- Bajrang Parvatrao Kalbhor (35) – fighting the aftermath of a crash that could have been avoided.
Speeding: A Death Trap on Mountain Roads
This is not the first time a high-speed vehicle has met a tragic end on Pasarni Ghat, and it won’t be the last unless stricter road safety measures are put in place. The roads are narrow, the slopes unforgiving, and the margin for error is almost nonexistent. Yet, thrill-seekers and reckless drivers continue to treat these dangerous curves like racing tracks.
Where are the warning signs? Where is the strict speed enforcement? How many more lives must be lost before the authorities wake up?
Time to Act Before More Lives Are Lost
The grieving families now face an unimaginable loss, and two others are holding on to life by a thread. Meanwhile, the administration will likely file a report, blame ‘reckless driving,’ and move on—until the next fatal accident happens.
