Rahul Gandhi Demands PM Modi’s Visit to Manipur: “Resignation is Not Enough”

Manipur is once again at the center of national politics. After months of protests, violence, and public anger, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has resigned. But Congress leader Rahul Gandhi says this is not enough.

Calling out the BJP-led government, Rahul Gandhi has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit Manipur immediately. He insists that simply removing the Chief Minister will not heal the wounds of the people who have suffered for nearly two years due to violence and instability in the state.

Rahul Gandhi’s Direct Attack on BJP

Rahul Gandhi did not hold back in his statement. He claimed that Biren Singh fueled division in Manipur, while PM Modi did nothing to stop the crisis. Even as the violence escalated, lives were lost, and the situation worsened, the BJP government allowed Singh to remain in power.

According to Gandhi, Singh’s resignation was forced—not a decision made out of responsibility, but due to mounting public pressure, a Supreme Court inquiry, and Congress’s no-confidence motion.

What Does Rahul Gandhi Want?

In a strong message, Rahul Gandhi urged PM Modi to visit Manipur immediately, interact with the people, and take concrete steps to restore peace. His demand is clear:

  • PM Modi must personally listen to the voices of Manipur’s people.
  • The government must present a clear roadmap for restoring normalcy.
  • Justice must be given to those who lost their loved ones in the violence.

BJP’s Response and the Bigger Political Picture

The BJP has yet to respond to Rahul Gandhi’s demand. However, political experts believe that the central government wants to avoid direct involvement in the Manipur crisis, especially with the 2024 Lok Sabha elections still fresh in memory.

Meanwhile, BJP’s central leadership is already discussing the next Chief Minister for the state. But the question remains—will a leadership change be enough to bring stability, or will deeper issues remain unresolved?

What’s Next for Manipur?

With Rahul Gandhi pressuring PM Modi for direct intervention, and the opposition keeping the heat on the BJP, Manipur’s political crisis is far from over.
